Fairy Chic

Lily likes to pick out her own outfits each day, but is a bit of dawdler. I recently decided that in order to make our mornings go a little smoother, I'd ask Lily to lay out an outfit the night before. We started this ritual Monday night, and because I wanted Lily to have positive feelings about the process, I vowed to support whatever outfit she put together.

She selected a look and laid it all out, very proud with herself. It was *a little* crazy, but I thought there was a good chance that the next morning she'd change her mind when it was time to put it on. Lo and behold, Tuesday morning when it was time to get dressed I gestured to the outfit she'd spread out and asked, "Is this what you want to wear today?" and she answered with a very confident, "Yes. That looks cute!"

Here's the ensemble she was so proud of.

That's a hot pink Disney princess shirt under last year's lavender fairy costume (hence the very short length). Beneath that she has selected brown tights with multi-colored polka dots. Hidden beneath the skirt (but on top of the tights) was a pair of hot pink diaper cover underpants. Also on top of the tights (but hidden by the hot pink, fur-lined snow boots -- and no, it was not snowing) was a pair of Sleeping Beauty socks. After this picture was taken she topped it all off with a pink, leopard print lined parka and some pink and lavender striped mittens.

The girl has style.

  1. WOWSER! She would've loved that bubblegum pink bedroom you choose when you were little!

  2. Wowza. That look is...something. I totally get the plan to have her pick things out the night before. Morning routine takes longer and longer the older Ben gets.
