Then I was at Goodwill and saw this.
It doesn't look like much, I know. But it was only $7.
And with a little bit of this . . .
I got it looking like this. Still not much, I know.
But from there, it was just a short trip to this.
The top area is backed with mesh for the earrings to hang on. I also went to the Asian market and picked up three little dishes to put stud earrings in. Next to those is some shelf area for bracelets.
I drilled a zillion holes in the underside of the shelf and put mug hooks in them for necklaces.
I also put a decorative wooden applique across the top and painted the whole thing heirloom white. I still need to put some touch-up paint over the screws I used to mount it to the wall, but so far it's working out really well.
Edit: Emily's comment on this post references an amusing Lily story. While I was hanging the jewelry rack in my room, Lily was in my room observing. (She probably thinks of it as "supervising.") She stared at it for a while and asked, "You made that all by yourself?" I confirmed that I had and she said, "Good job."
You made that all by yourself? Good job!
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice when your BOSS gives you compliments! LOL. Really lovely job on the jewelry case. But, I would need to use toothpicks to make mine since I have so little in the way of "jewels".

ReplyDeleteI know this post is from almost a year ago, but I was wondering how you got the paint to keep from coming off of the mug hooks? Every time I spray paint them, it always comes off. Any ideas?
